Description

Bergen County, New Jersey law firm is seeking a litigation paralegal on a perm or temp to perm basis.  The litigation paralegal will work on a variety of pharmaceutical and medical device product liability matters and be responsible for the firm's large docket of active mass tort cases in various state and federal courts.

Daily responsibilities for this position include:

Filing and serving pleadings and motions in state and federal courts

  • Working with vendors to effectuate service of process
  • Monitoring various state and federal dockets for new filings
  • Monitoring litigation-related deadlines such as due dates for service of process, responsive pleadings, and interrogatories
  • Maintaining docket information in the firm's case management database
  • Scheduling depositions and preparing deposition kits
  • Preparing claim packages for settlement
  • Assisting supervising attorneys with various pre-litigation, litigation, and settlement projects, as needed

Desired Skills and Experience

  • The ideal candidate must possess the following attributes:
  • B.A./B.S. degree or a paralegal certificate from an accredited institution
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Experience using New Jersey eCourts, CM/ECF, and PACER to file pleadings, motions, and other documents
  • Familiarity with relevant NJ Rules of Court and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Experience coordinating service of process
  • Experience with docket management including monitoring notices from NJ eCourts and CM/ECF
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage several time-critical projects under tight deadlines
  • Ability and desire to work on matters beyond regular business hours
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Professional, collegial and friendly demeanor

The following attributes are preferred, but not required:

  • Strong general research and writing abilities
  • Prior personal injury or mass tort experience
  • Prior experience with patient medical records and medical terminology
  • Familiarity with case and document management software
  • Intermediate or higher proficiency in MS Office
